Our art and design curriculum creates learners who are engaged, inspired and challenged.
The art and design units promote experimentation, invention and creativity. We develop knowledge and skills through looking at a range of influential artists and designers. We develop lifelong artist through our key drivers:
- Using sketchbooks to reflect on and adapt designs.
- Broadening thoughts and opinions of artistic interpretations.
- Using different media to convey texture, line, shape and tone.
Pupils develop a greater understanding of artistic skills throughout the primary phase of their education.Art and design provokes and provides answers to uestions about the impact anf effect art can have on different times, cultures and people.
As a sculptor, they use pressure and position of objects to create the shape of an overall piece. The mixing of colours and use of different types of painting equipment alters the shade or mood of artwork. Graded pencils and shading techniques create a different tone to drawings. Texture and colour are created through collage and printing, using a range of different materials. The use of sketch books provides a working anthology of pupils' work over time.
Pupils also learn about influential people who have affected the art and design world. They may be architects, artists or designers. By learning about these people, pupils are inspired to express themselves artistically and understand how art is applied to the real world.
