Year 5

What is your topic this term?

This term our topic is focussing on the Mayan Civilisations.
What subjects are you doing and what are the end products for each subject? In reading this term we are focussing on the book Street Child. The children will get the opportunity to look further into the workhouses in Britain in the 1860s. In maths we are beginning to focus on the module of multiplication and division to develop further skills and alternatives methods which can be used. In writing we are beginning to focus on a way to reduce single use plastic usage across the academy and begin to write a persuasive text. For science our end goal is to develop a clear understanding of space and understand the facts about each planet.

What skills are the children learning?

In maths the children are developing number skills in order to apply this to learning new methods within multiplication and division such as the area model. In writing the children will be able to direct grammatical skills such as bracket and learn persuasive features within a piece of writing. In Jigsaw it allows children to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their abilities to learn and develop further relationships. It also helps children to develop skills such as teamwork and communication.
